My Story
by Maribel Real
Albany Park Community Center
Family Literacy Student
My parents and my husband have always reinforced the
importance of my being present to my children and dedicating
constructive time to them.
When we moved to this country from Mexico, I really felt the void of my
family’s absence. I
believe that the center offered me resources that helped me deal
with that and make me stronger.
The center gave me an outlet to learn more and a place where
my children and I could be involved.
From the first time I came to inquire about the program, the
staff has been extremely attentive and caring.
They went out of their way to listen to my needs and to
provide resources for my children. I learn a lot about how to
educate my children here.
I feel that combined with my own creativity and enthusiasm
for my children’s education APCC provides a piece of the puzzle for
me. Sometimes it is in
trying classroom activities at home, or adapting/adjusting the
classroom curriculum to the setup of my home and the run of our
family’s daily routines. It has helped me establish a parenting
style based on the information the program provides, my beliefs and
morals, and my children’s individual needs.
I believe that this combination is providing my children the
tools they need to be good and healthy people.
I believe that in the future they will be well balanced.
