Kahna's Story
Kanha was eager to learn English and get a job when she moved to Chicago from Cambodia with her husband. She attended English classes at Albany Park Community Center (APCC) and was quickly promoted from Beginner to Intermediate English level classes. She also took an Introduction to Computers Class. Wanting to learn more English that is needed for a job, she attended the Job Readiness and Search Class for ESL students. There she made a resume, learned how to use a computer to help find a job, and improved her English for a job interview. From a job fair held at APCC, she learned about and applied for a Material Handler job at Precision Plating, a family owned business in the Albany Park community. “I was very nervous at the interview, but I wanted to tell them I would be a good worker for them”. Precision Plating is glad to have Kanha as an employee because she is very reliable worker who learns quickly and works hard. “I am happy for my job and I am happy for the classes at APCC that helped me.
