APCC Adult Education Program

What Services Do We Offer?*

ESL/ABE/GED classes

This program offers free English as a Second Language (ESL), Adult Basic Education (ABE) and General Educational Development (GED) classes to community residents and everyone else who want to realize their hopes for a better life. There are four levels of ESL classes designed to help students master the English language and adapt to living in the United States. Each of our ESL/ABE/GED classes includes one or more of the following components:

  • Computer Assisted Language Learning (using technology in teaching and learning English)
  • Civics Instruction (offering more information on U.S. community structure and systems)
  • Bridge Program (preparing students to transition to employment and/or higher levels of education)
  • Family Literacy (providing Even Start programming for children whose parents are enrolled in ESL classes)
  • Tutoring (providing one-on-one or small group instruction for students with special learning needs)

Complementary services such as Job Readiness, Citizenship and Computer Classes are also offered to all Adult Education students and other prospective clients.

“My experience at Albany Park Community Center is good.  When I began here I didn’t understand English.  I have studied English here for almost 8 months.  My English is getting better.  I now understand more when I have an appointment with the doctor or when I talk to my son’s school.  I hope to continue with this program.  It helps many people from different countries.”
