Pictured are Nehad Banosian, an ESL student at Albany Park Community Center (APCC) and Harold Rice, Executive Director of APCC. They were at an Illinois Coalition of Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) event celebrating the state's approval of funds for Adult Education in Illinois.
Nehad, an immigrant from Jordan, spoke passionately about how it is important for her and the community to have ESL classes at APCC. She is attending classes at APCC, improving her English with the goal of attending college to become a teacher in the United States. Approximately 1,400 students from over 50 different countries attend APCC annually to learn English, get their GED, prepare to become a citizen, and take computer classes.
